A program in development

Learn and work
through mentorship.

We’re developing a program that connects experienced professionals with people learning practical skills through real client projects. Mentors would gain access to freelance projects through a program designed to limit competition within each service category, while helping someone build practical skills. Small businesses and nonprofits would get professional work at accessible prices, while mentees gain practical experience.

Our mission

Our mission is to help people develop practical skills and pursue work opportunities through mentorship on real projects, while making professional services more accessible to small businesses and nonprofits.

The proposed approach

A project becomes a
learning opportunity.

Meaningful mentorship in every paid project.

The mentor provides instruction, oversees the work, and helps the mentee build skills through participation. Depending on the mentee’s experience, participation could begin with guided observation and progress to doing more of the work.

When a mentee contributes productive work, they could earn a share of the project payment. Responsibilities and payment arrangements would be agreed before work begins.

Who it’s for

Different starting points.
A shared opportunity.

Mentors & freelancers

A place to find work—and pass on your skills.

We aim to reserve a limited number of mentor spots in each service category, giving participating freelancers less competition for available projects.

Earn through your professional work while guiding a mentee and sharing your experience.

Project availability and earnings would depend on client demand and suitable matches.

Mentees

Learn by taking part
in real work.

Learn alongside an experienced professional on work a real client needs. Build practical skills, confidence, and examples of your work with feedback along the way.

As your contribution grows, you may have opportunities to earn money.

Participation would not guarantee paid work or employment.

Small businesses & nonprofits

Move your project
forward.

Access professional services at prices intended to fit smaller budgets, with an experienced mentor overseeing delivery. Your project also gives a freelancer paid work and a mentee useful experience.

We aim to keep pricing accessible while compensating participants fairly.

Services and availability will develop with the mentors who join.

An initial focus

Finding a path
into practical work.

We are considering an initial focus on people in the first few years after high school who want practical experience as they explore or enter a career. We are also exploring opportunities for veterans developing skills or moving into a new field. The first groups we serve will depend on the mentors, projects, and partners available.

Learning opportunities and any future financial support would reflect each person’s situation. For example, someone whose tuition is covered by the GI Bill might need practical experience or help with an uncovered equipment need instead. We want support to address unmet needs and complement resources people already have.

Our purpose

Helping people
comes first.

Organization structure is still being explored

We are exploring whether to establish the program as a nonprofit and seek 501(c)(3) status. That could allow us to accept eligible charitable donations to support scholarships, computers, and other needs that can prevent mentees from participating or continuing their education. Nonprofit formation and tax-exempt status have not been established.

If we choose a business structure, we would look to partner with established nonprofits that could receive and administer charitable donations for eligible mentees. Those partnerships are still to be developed. Whichever structure we choose, our goal is to help people, and we intend to use platform revenue to sustain the program and expand opportunities.

Where we are now

We are currently gathering interest, rather than accepting donations or applications for financial assistance. Any future assistance would depend on available funding and program criteria.

Help shape what comes next

Bring your interest.
Help build the program.

We would like to hear from people interested in mentoring, learning, bringing a project, or helping us build the organization. If we pursue nonprofit status, that may include people interested in serving on a board. Advisors, community partners, and people who could help arrange equipment or educational support are welcome to express interest too.

Expressing interest does not commit you to joining or guarantee a place, project, payment, or assistance.

Express interest
